Wizards 2022 Free Agent: Bradley Beal

Last but certainly not least, the prize of the Wizards own free-agent class and arguably the prize of the NBA free agency class in general, guard Bradley Beal. After declining his option for next season the next step seems obvious for Beal.

It seems as if he will give the Wizards front office one last attempt to build a good team around him. He has yet to play a game alongside Kristaps Porzingis, who will instantly become one of the best teammates he has had in his NBA career when they do take the court together.

Beal can secure the most money by running it back with Washington and his loyalty clearly lies with the Wizards franchise. It’s likely they will have some sort of an agreement that if it doesn’t work out they will find him a trade in the next few years, but everything points to Beal giving it another go in Washington.

Some fans will be upset or bothered by the contract, but the fact of the matter is both sides don’t really have many options outside of moving forward together for the time being. For Beal, it gets him the deal he wants and he tries to stick it out for a few more years while hopefully seeing improvements.

For the Wizards, they lock up one of the best players they’ve had in a long time and someone who has become the face of the franchise. If it doesn’t work, he will always retain significant trade value.

Although it is very hard to build winners around star players, it is also very hard to get the star players in the first place. The Wizards need Beal as much as he needs them in the short term.
