Washington Wizards: 3 Players to watch in the 2022 NBA 2K23 Summer League

Summer League Wizards to Watch: No. 1 – Johnny Davis
This one is a no-brainer. All eyes will be on Johnny Davis, who the Washington Wizards selected 10th overall in this year’s draft. Many analysts described Davis as a combo-guard whose capable of playing both ends of the floor. In his final season at Wisconsin, he averaged 19.7 PPG, 8.2 RPG, and 2.1 APG. Davis has no problems putting the ball in the basket but he has to prove that he can be a threat from behind the arc.
He only shot 30.6% from three last year on 4 attempts per game. That percentage needs to increase dramatically at the next level because NBA defenders will take away his strengths and force him to shoot. Averaging nearly 20 PPG last year, it’s clear Davis has no problem scoring the basketball, but a more consistent 3-point stroke would make him even more dangerous on offense.
During Summer League, he also has to show that he’s able to handle lead guard responsibilities. In his final collegiate season, Davis averaged more turnovers than assists (2.3 to 2.1). That just won’t cut it at the next level. He’ll most likely be the focal point of the Wizard’s offense this summer, so he needs to play under control and take better care of the ball. It’s important for him to show the coaches that he’s not just a scorer but a playmaker as well.
I have no doubt in my mind that Davis will bring the intensity to the defensive end of the floor. At Wisconsin, he was constantly in the passing lanes, which led to a ton of easy transition baskets. I expect much of the same in Summer League because he has great awareness and a knack for getting his hands on the ball. The Wizards ranked 25th in defensive rating last season, so the addition of a tenacious defender like Davis will do wonders for them next year.
