Reason Bradley Beal will bounce back next season: Last year was an outlier

Bradley Beal’s 2021-22 season wasn’t an outlier because it was a poor offensive performance from a usually outstanding offensive player. It’s more specific than that.

Last season was an outlier because it was by far the worst shooting season Beal has had. It could very well be the worst one he has in his NBA career.

While players have ups and downs over their careers naturally, some things are much more consistent and ‘sure things’ than others. One thing that doesn’t often go from a strength to a weakness for a player is shooting ability.

Not many great shooters turn into poor shooters suddenly. Instead, you can see extended streaks of shooting struggles from even the best shooters, but almost every single time it corrects itself over the larger sample size.

Bradley Beal struggled for a huge chunk of an NBA season last year. Almost half of a season, in fact. Still, 42 more games would have likely given his perimeter success rate a boost based on the simple fact that he is an outside sniper and has been for many years.

That doesn’t leave a player in one offseason. Expect Beal to bring his three-point percentage closer to the 35-40 percent range he usually has been in instead of around the thirty percent number he finished at last season.
