Free Agent Guard that would bring value to the Washington Wizards: Collin Sexton

Atop the list is Collin Sexton, a player who is as different as guards come from the previous two players listed. He tops the list because he is the only real ‘upside’ guy, and at the right price, the Wizards should still be swinging for some upside.

Sexton would have the chance to play a much bigger role both short term and long term than either Bradley or Bledsoe. He can move the needle night in and night out in ways the other two can’t at this point in there careers.

Still just 23 years old, Sexton is a restricted free agent and the Cavaliers maintain the right to match any contract he signs with another team. It would require some sort of a sign and trade deal for the Wizards to make it work, but at this point it would not be shocking to see that scenario play out.

Sexton on the Wizards would be an interesting fit for a few reasons. First and foremost, he would provide a scoring threat that the team currently lacks behind Bradley Beal and Kristaps Porzingis. While Kyle Kuzma was great last year and is a major part of the team, adding a more natural bucket getter will only help Kuz and the Wizards as a team.

Sexton has the scorers mentality that would allow the Wizards tons of lineup options if they were to bring him in. During the 2020-21 season, Sexton averaged 24.3 points per game while shooting 47.5 percent from the field. He isn’t a point guard by any means, but him and Beal are both capable to handle that role at times throughout a game.

If the Wizards value a potential homerun signing, which they should, Sexton should already be on their radar. If he returns to his 2020-21 form he could be a steal that helps this year. More importantly, he could become a piece that helps the Wizards ascend in the coming seasons.
