Washington Wizards: every player who becomes trade eligible on December 15th
Nearly every team is patiently awaiting the key December 15th deadline as that is the day that recently signed players become eligible for trade. The Washington Wizards are no exception to this as they will likely be active at the trade deadline this season either as buyers or sellers.
With rumors that Kyle Kuzma wants a large pay day this summer and the Wizards looking to break the cycle of mediocrity, it seems likely that he will be moved and one of the players from the Wizards who becomes trade eligible next week will likely be included in order to upgrade to a better player.
The Wiz only have two players who are classified as recently signed thus becoming trade assets at this time. Neither are really notable names in trade discussions though.
Those two players are Anthony Gill and Delon Wright. Wright has only played four games this season, although, the played ok in those games. Gill has played in far more games but has not played quite as well.
While they may not be huge assets for the Washington Wizards on their own, they could be key to completing other major trades.
Wright could be a complimentary piece in a Kuzma trade intending to gain an All-Star caliber player in return. He makes $8 million a year so he would be mostly a salary match piece. He could be especially valuable in some proposed trades with the New York Knicks.
There are rumors of the Wizards discussing a Kuzma for Randle swap, as well as other players along with them added on as an extra bonus. Wright would be key to making this trade work with salaries needing to match along with Will Barton.
Gill on the other hand, is likely to also be only valued as an extra piece in a potential Kuzma trade. He could possibly be used in a rumored move to the Atlanta Hawks for John Collins. Will Barton or Monte Morris, most likely the first option, would also have to be included in this rumored trade to make the salaries work.
There are, of course other trades that the Wizards may explore, like one for hometown legend Kevin Durant, or one for defensive menace Patrick Beverley. There are many other options as well.
While they don’t have a mind-boggling number of players becoming available for trade on the December 15th trade date, the Washington Wizards do still have a couple players becoming eligible that could be used to complete bigger deals at the deadline.
