3 things the Washington Wizards need to change after a third of the season
The Washington Wizards have failed to move the ball at an above average rate.
One of the best ways to make good players look great and great players look elite is to move the basketball. We see this work with the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers as they have both been incredibly good in recent years. Even the Boston Celtics showed that elite ball movement covers up other weaknesses in your game last season.
The Wizards have completely failed to make the extra pass nearly every single time it’s available. In the game against the Los Angeles Clippers alone, they missed a wide-open Kyle Kuzma in three-point land at least four times. Remember, Kuzma had 35 points and was hitting threes at an elite level.
This has been an issue the entire season, and it’s nearly every player on the roster who’s guilty. The only player who can argue that this hasn’t been an issue for them is Deni Avdija, a player who is not shooting with confidence this season and has elected to pass more often than he should.
This issue nearly always leads to tough shots at the buzzer that are often times contested. Either that or it leads to turnovers when a pass is made because the gameplan becomes predictable. It does not lead to success.
If the Washington Wizards want to turn things around this season, the offense is where they should start. Ensuring the ball doesn’t become stagnant is easily the best way to improve a good offense to a great offense.
