The Washington Wizards are off to a rough start, but a huge bright spot for them so far this season has been the stellar play of second year guard Jordan Goodwin. The only issue is the fact that he is still on just a two-way contract.
His defense has been nothing short of spectacular, he has had two games with five or more steals on the season already while also having two or more blocks three times. The block numbers become more impressive when taking into consideration that Goodwin is six foot three.
He has also offered some steady scoring, averaging a hair under eight points per game on incredible efficiency. He is shooting 49.6% from the field and 45% from three-point range. While his numbers dip at the free throw line, heโs also rarely ever at the line to improve that percentage.
Since the injuries to Bradley Beal and Will Barton, Jordan Goodwin has taken a huge step forward for the Washington Wizards.
In the absence of two elite guards as well as Delon Wright, another guard, has caused a vacuum in the Wizards lineup that has been adequately filled by Jordan Goodwin. He has played his way into the normal rotation with his stellar defense and efficient offense.
Since being entrusted with minutes, he has done nothing but good things for the team. He may only be 24-year-old, but he brings valuable leadership on the defensive end. The entire team plays harder when he is on the floor.
For a second-year player on a non-guaranteed contract, he has looked amazing. At times he even seems like a ten-year vet. He has been incredibly valuable for the Wizards so far this season, despite the losses.
The biggest disappointment with him, other than the complete void of wins in the past few weeks, is the lack of guaranteed contract for Jordan Goodwin. He was given a ten-day deal last season but resigned on a slightly more lucrative two-way deal this season. No doubt he deserves a full NBA contract for the rest of the season. The Washington Wizards need to get it done.
