Should the Washington Wizards trade for this MVP candidate?
The current coaching situation for the Washington Wizards would make any DeMar DeRozan fit difficult.
Under head coach Wes Unseld Jr, the Washington Wizards have struggled. They take too many mid-range jumpers and contested threes for a good offense. Yet still, the defensive intensity is lack luster at times.
This would not fit for DeMar DeRozan as he needs spacing around him. Any good coach can get productivity from him, yet there is plenty of reason to doubt Unseld’s ability to find a good rotation around the star player.
Worse still is the fact that the front office is unlikely to fire Wes Unseld Jr due to the huge impact his father had on the franchise as both a player and a head coach. This means they have to wait two more seasons before they can move on to a better coach. This makes any move for DeRozan inadvisable at best, a horrible decision at worst.
Just as the Wizards are one piece away from contending, they are also one piece away from being in the Victor Wembanyama race. It may be best to just move on from Bradley Beal, Kyle Kuzma, and Kristaps Porzingis and build around the pieces they get from those players.
No matter the decision the front office makes regarding a potential DeRozan trade, there is a great argument behind them that could lead them to a championship at some point.
