Following the controversial move to trade forward Rui Hachimura for Kendrick Nunn Monday morning, many have wondered how he could impact the team if at all. This is certainly an enigma that the coaching staff will have to ponder as well.

Many fans have even speculated that he may never even enter the rotation, or even be moved in a separate trade with a suitor who was not interested in what Rui Hachimura brought to the table.

Following a knee injury that kept him sidelined all of last season, Nunn is off to a rough start, putting up career lows across the board. However, before the injury, the 27-year-old was the starting point guard for a contending team.

Nunn was always a score first guard, something the Wizards are used to at this point. This could be an issue if he returns to form as they already have Bradley Beal, Kyle Kuzma, and Kristaps Porzingis taking a vast majority of the shots.

He was a capable playmaker in spurts, but never really moved the ball enough to realistically see him running this offense. This makes the trade a bit puzzling.

A bench role may be best suited for Kendrick Nunn on the Washington Wizards.

With their primary bench scorer now on the Lakers, the Washington Wizards are in need of scoring off the bench. This could be where Nunn specializes for them.

For his career, he averages 13 points per game on pretty solid efficiency from the field, even with his third season being rough on him. Having a guard who can score on all three levels and provide decent defense off the bench would be a huge win for the Wizards who have lacked any guard depth this season. This would also provide some injury insurance for Monte Morris and Bradley Beal.

While it’s not yet certain what his role will be with the Washington Wizards, Kendrick Nunn could be a step in the right direction for the team if he returns to his pre-injury level of play. The roster still is not complete though, we will have to wait and see how it fleshes out in the next two weeks.
