According to Chris Haynes Will Barton is “open to a change of scenery.” This should surprise very few as he is already a likely trade candidate and hasn’t really carved out a role for himself on his hometown team.

This news isn’t horrible for the Wizards as he is mostly used as salary filler in any proposed trade, although if trading with the right team, he could bring them some decent value.

He was traded to his hometown team in a deal that involved their starting point guard Monte Morris. This move saw Kentavious Caldwell-Pope gear up in a Denver Nuggets jersey. This trade has worked out very well for the Nuggets as Caldwell-Pope has been a major contributor for them in their quest to add a championship to Nikola Jokic’s Hall of Fame resume.

Will Barton hasn’t been great this season but could still hold value in the trade market.

Barton has had a rough season with the Wizards as he is currently seeing the worst stats of his career since he was a bench warmer in Portland nearly a decade ago. This stings extra hard since he was a high-quality starter on a solid team just last season.

While he hasn’t done much this season, he is sure to be an interesting trade asset in the coming weeks as he is still a veteran who has averaged upwards of 13 points per game in six of the last eight seasons. He could be a major trade piece for a team like the Toronto Raptors who lack guard depth.

If the Washington Wizards are to follow through with Will Barton’s wishes, they won’t really be missing much to be completely honest. He hasn’t been good for the team, and they could gain much more by moving the veteran wing.
