It has become increasingly obvious that the Washington Wizards need something new in their roster. After the most embarrassing two-day stretch I have ever had the displeasure of watching, the Wizards should look to make a move on Thursday’s deadline.

Before deciding on who I believe would be the best sleeper options for the Wiz, I took a look at where the problem areas are. Unsurprisingly, they still have not changed since the beginning of the season. They need a starting caliber point guard and a backup center.

While they have cushioned the issue at the one spot by moving for Kendrick Nunn, the issue is still there as quantity does not equal quality. Although, his presence does add some variety to their offense which is an underrated aspect of the game that every team needs.

The backup center, however, is still just as prominent as ever. Once Daniel Gafford goes to the bench, the five spot is dominated by Kristaps Porzingis. While I admire what he is capable of while at the center position, he is better off playing power forward for around 80-90% of his minutes. This is due to his ability to stretch the floor, his thin frame, and his extensive injury history.

The Wizards have some interesting players that they can use as trade assets, they also have control over nearly all of their picks going forward. The last point is assuming they make the playoffs this year and the New York Knicks get their first-round pick in the upcoming draft. A much taller assumption now than it was a week ago.

The one thing that they do have as potential trade bait for a quality back up is the trio of picks they received from the Los Angeles Lakers. Three second round picks and Kendrick Nunn in exchange for Rui Hachimura, a trade that was heavily criticized by Wizards fans, including myself. Although, it has worked out pretty decently so far.

One of the biggest things I considered is the fact that the Washington Wizards are looking to make the playoffs this season. Something that may not necessarily be the best choice for them, but still the path they have chosen to pursue.

Now with all of that out of the way, let’s get into the fun part. Who are the three sleeper targets for the Washington Wizards that you are here to read about?
