Many fans of the Washington Wizards expected Deni Avdija to take a leap this season, which didn’t happen.

While he did bring the elite defense that was expected of him and has had some great stretches of games, that does not excuse Deni Avdija from this list. His development has still gotten almost nowhere and still continues to largely sit in the corner and chuck threes.

While there was a stretch where he went “Turbo” and made the Wizards one of the most entertaining teams in the league for about a week and a half, he couldn’t sustain that level of play. He continues to be inefficient as a scorer taking away from his playmaking ability.

If he could hit his good looks more often, from three or just at the rim, it would make him a far better player and probably lift himself off of this list. Instead, he is shooting 43.1% from the field, 28.6% from three, and 75%from the free throw line. All while garnering little to no defensive attention.

The upside? He has slightly improved his baseline statistical output form last season despite his shooting splits being down from a year ago. He has also been featured in some offensive sets that have benefited him greatly.

Part of the problem here still lies within the lack of team identity and an inconsistent role, but that is not much of an excuse for a top ten pick to be averaging 8.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game in year three. If he doesn’t improve soon, he will continue to end up on lists like this. The Washington Wizards need to focus on his development this offseason.
