The Washington Wizards were founded in 1961, giving them 62 years in the NBA.  With those years came different eras and names.  They have been known as Washington Bullets, Capital Bullets, Baltimore Bullets, Chicago Zephyrs and Chicago Packers.

Even with a long history, they haven’t been very lucky when it came to making the playoffs.  They only collected 30 playoff appearances, which is less than half of the time they been in the NBA.

The Wizards also had a ton of point guards come and go.  Some honorable great point guards to mentions are Dave Bing, Guy Williams, Frank Johnson and even Muggsy Bogues.

Kevin Porter will be starting off the list of the greatest point guards in Wizards history.

Porter spent his first three years in the NBA with Washington before being traded. He ended up coming back in 1979.

However, he had a rough patch after being drafted to the team in 1972.

In just his second year, he led the NBA in personal fouls with 319 and that was when he was coming off the bench. In the 1974-75 season, he recorded 320 but he was still good enough to earn himself a starting position.

The bright side is he led the NBA in assists with eight per game, winning his first of four assist titles.

When he came back, he played for two years before snapping his Achilles tendon in 1981 during the offseason. When he returned from his injury, he averaged just four points and four assists in his final season.

Still, Porter was tremendous with Washington. He averaged ten points and six assists. He earned two assist titles and helped them make the playoffs four times (one NBA Finals appearance). He ranks fifth on the Wizards’ all-time assists list with 2,593.
