Carmelo Anthony could be a huge asset off the bench for the Wiz

While he may not be who he once was back in his days with the New York Knicks or Denver Nuggets, Carmelo Anthony is still a certified bucket off the bench. He is also potentially available for a veteran minimum, leaving another $8 million for the Wizards to spend while bolstering their scoring depth.

Anthony is a player who can still score on every level. He has a fluid midrange shot, a quality three-point jumper, and is still capable of making moves in the post. On top of that, he is still capable of creating space for a jump shot in an elevator. He only needs on dribble in the midrange to create a quality look for himself.

His biggest issues as a player are his lack of anything past scoring and his unwillingness to fully commit to an offensive system. That held him back with the Los Angeles Lakers, although he was their best player at times that season.

Anthony could be a mentor for players on the bench like Corey Kispert who is already looking like he could play similarly to how Anthony performed for the Trailblazers. He could also help players like Deni Avdija or Johnny Davis who are well rounded in every aspect of the game outside of scoring but greatly struggle in that area.

The biggest issue with attracting Anthony as a player is he wants a championship. Convincing him to play for a team that likely has no chances of sniffing a championship would be incredibly difficult.
