Wizards take advantage of Nets wanting to contend

While this trade idea was not well received on Twitter, it could be an idea that helps the Wizards kickstart the rebuild.

The Brooklyn Nets will likely be looking for a scorer who can play off of Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson without relying on paint opportunities in order to keep Nic Claxton on the floor. If a Damian Lillard trade doesn’t pan out, Bradley Beal is the clear second-best option for them.

He has played with starting point guard Spencer Dinwiddie before and can easily slide into a more off-ball role next to Bridges. He would be a great trade option for the Nets.

While Ben Simmons is far from the best player in the league, he is on a much shorter contract than Bradley Beal and could easily be waived with little to no consequences if he doesn’t pan out. This is a negative contract for negative contract type of trade while both teams also gain pieces of value.

The Wizards could focus on the development of Cam Thomas as a playmaker and defender while also either selecting players with both the 21 and 22 picks or using them to move up in the draft. Best case scenario, Ben Simmons’ returns to the way he was earlier in his career and the Wiz now have a young core with an established All-Star. Worst case scenario, they are free of a bad contract two years earlier.

All three of these trade ideas could pay dividends for the Washington Wizards as they gain youth and/or draft capital in each one. The Wiz would be in a far better position going into next season if they manage to make all of these moves.
