Following the huge news Wednesday afternoon that Kirstaps Porzingis had been traded to the Boston Celtics from the Washington Wizards, the deal has seemingly imploded on itself just hours later. The Los Angeles Clippers are pulling out of the deal.
The Clippers were poised to receive Malcolm Brogdon in exchange for Marcus Morris and the 30th pick in this year’s draft. They pulled out of the deal due to the medical history of Malcolm Brogdon according to reports by Marc Stein.
Could a trade between the Boston Celtics and Washington Wizards still happen?
The Wizards and Celtics are still working on a deal but are left with mere hours before Porzingis’ player option is due. They have until midnight eastern time to agree to a deal and finalize it before Porzingis gains the ability to control his fate.
It is entirely possible that the Wizards end up taking Brogdon rather than Morris and the pick and have the trade work out as a simple two team trade. They could later flip him for picks at the deadline to gain more value from the veteran point guard.
Right now, nothing in this trade is certain. However, one thing is clear, the Washington Wizards need to trade Porzingis before the deadline hits, or they will lose him for nothing in free agency.
