On draft night, the Washington Wizards traded up to the seventh pick in the draft in order to select Bilal Coulibaly. This trade followed rumors that the Oklahoma City Thunder were trying to leapfrog the Wizards to take the French prospect. This trade may already be working out for the team.

In just his first few days with the team, the new dynamic duo has shown great signs of leadership that the Wizards haven’t seen in years. Jordan Poole reached out to Coulibaly to welcome him to the team and the rookie has been directly involved in press conferences, translating key points in French so fans back in his home country can understand and stating how excited he is to be a Wizard (paywall).

The Wiz have also shown they are turning a corner by not only returning the number 0 into the number rotation for Bilal Coulibaly, but also possibly giving the number 3 to Jordan Poole as well. Finally moving on from the past and focusing on the future.

Bilal Coulibaly has already visited the Wizards practice facility

In a now deleted Twitter post, the new rookie posted some photos of him working on his jump shot in the practice facility. Included was a video of Coulibaly draining a halfcourt shot with the Washington Wizards and Mystics championship banners in the background.

This was met with excitement from Wizards fans across the internet as he already seems to be ingrained with the franchise and is seemingly willing to work hard to grow in the NBA. This is an important aspect for any player and team, making it that much better that he is already working hard just days after being drafted.

With Bilal Coulibaly already putting in work, it looks as if the Washington Wizards made the right decision to draft the French prospect with their lottery pick. This Wizards team is going to be fun this year.
