Mo Wagner

The 26-year-old German big man’s first stint with the Washington Wizards was a short one as he appeared in only 70 games in 1.5 seasons. He was traded away during the 2020-21 season in the deal that brought Daniel Gafford to Washington.

That was a different time and a different Wizards team. Washington was chasing the playoffs and they didn’t have a role or playing time for the young Wagner.

Since then, Wagner blossomed into a solid backup center in Orlando, providing valuable minutes off the bench. He is a versatile offensive player who can post up, pass, and shoot while holding his own on the defensive end. He is by no means a great defensive player but he is much improved from the time he came into the league and can improve even more. After all, it can take a long time for big men to fully come into their own defensively.

Even if he doesn’t improve immensely, Wagner plays hard and can set the tone for the backup units with his intensity. The Wizards need a player of that mold as they lacked that toughness at times last season.

Wagner may choose to stay with the Magic considering his younger brother Franz is there and he has an established role as the backup center there. However, if Orlando wants to move on from him or if there is a buy-low opportunity to grab him, the Wizards should seriously consider it.

Next. 3 buy-low candidates the Wizards should take a flyer on. dark
