4. Target role players

The Washington Wizards need rotation pieces to begin their rebuild. They hope to draft a superstar in the lottery, but one player does not make a team in the NBA. Getting some quality role players lined up is important. They do not want to have to completely rebuild their roster like the Mavericks did after drafting Luka Doncic. Having a starter or two already in place is the difference between making a quick leap and still being two years away after finding a star.

Is Jordan Poole a long-term fit? They just gave Kuzma over $100 million, so expect him to be in the nation’s capital for at least a few years. Tyus Jones is entering the final year of his contract, but do the Wizards make him their point guard of the present and future? Those are questions that need to be answered.

Washington should be looking to trade for pieces too as they shop their talent. Can they convince some team to give up an undervalued player? The Wizards must take chances for their rebuild to pay off and that includes finding hidden gems on other teams that are not getting opportunities.

The Washington Wizards still have veterans to trade, and they should explore the market for them as they enter into year one of a total rebuild.
