Las Vegas Summer League is over, the peak of free agency is behind us and we are inching closer to the start of the 2023-24 season. Even though we are still three months away from the start of the regular season, the timeline for important dates for next season is out.
Aug. 16-20: NBA schedule release
The 82-game schedule will be released for all 30 teams, including the Washington Wizards.
Aug. 25 – Sept. 10: 2023 FIBA Men’s World Cup (Philippines, Japan &Indonesia)
Team USA will participate in Group C and will play each game of the group in Manila, Philippines. The other three teams in the group are New Zealand, Jordan, and Greece.
Team USA, coached by Steve Kerr, will try to dethrone the world champions Spain.
Sept. 30: Training Camps open for all teams participating in preseason games outside North America
The Washington Wizards spent part of last training camp in Japan last season, playing two preseason games against the Golden State Warriors. It’s unclear whether the Wizards will have preseason games abroad this year.
Oct. 3: NBA Training Camps open
Every team starts their training camp with players on guaranteed and two-way contracts. Teams can bring up to 21 players to training camp.
Oct. 5: NBA Preseason games begin
Teams usually play 4 or 5 preseason games before the season.
Oct. 20: NBA Preseason ends
Oct. 23: Rosters set for NBA Opening Day
Teams have to cut their roster to 15 guaranteed contracts and 3 two-way players.
Oct.24: Start of the NBA Regular Season
Opening night of the NBA usually has the previous season’s champions have their ring ceremony.
Nov. 3: NBA In-Season Tournament begins
The newly implemented NBA Cup starts with group-stage games.
Dec. 7: NBA In-Season Tournament Semifinals
These games will take place in Las Vegas, NV among the four teams who qualify through the group and knockout play.
Dec. 9: NBA In-Season Tournament Finals
Winner-take-all game in Las Vegas to crown the first inaugural NBA Cup champions.
Feb. 16-18: NBA All-Star 2024
The weekend will take place in Indianapolis, IN. Whether any Wizards players will partake in Saturday night events or the All-Star game on Sunday is to be decided during the season.
April 14: Regular Season ends
The 82-game season is over, the play-in tournament follows and the playoffs begin the next weekend.
