OG Anunoby

The 26-year-old small forward has a player option worth $19.9 million for the 2024-25 season. He is almost certainly turning it down since he likely will be one of the most prized free agents of the summer.

There simply aren’t too many two-way wings whose primes are ahead of them that hit free agency. Anunoby is a rare example. Not only is he already one of the best individual defenders in the league, but he is also consistently adding to his game every season. He averaged 16.8 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1.9 steals, on 47.6% shooting from the field and hitting 38.7% of his threes last season. And, he will almost certainly improve these stats next season as he will have more playmaking duties with Fred VanVleet gone.

This should give him a market easily above $30 million a season. The maximum contract for players with 7 years of experience is above $40 million a year. It is unclear whether Anunoby would have deals around that range, but if the Wizards want to poach him, they may need to get as close to that number as possible.

The most appealing aspect of Anunoby is the fact that he has a very desirable skillset that every contending team wants. There is a reason he has constantly been in trade talks and bidding wars for the last few years. Even if he were to get a massive contract with over $120 million in guaranteed money, he should be extremely tradeable on that deal.

Even if not, Anunoby would help the Wizards tremendously. A wing rotation consisting of Kyle Kuzma, Bilal Coulibaly, and OG Anunoby would be a scary one for the opposing offenses. It is certainly worth considering.
