Jaden McDaniels

Unlike the other players on this list, Jaden McDaniels will be a restricted free agent next summer, meaning that the Minnesota Timberwolves will have the chance to match any offer sheet to McDaniels. There is also a chance they agree to a contract extension before then. However, considering Minnesota’s financial situation, McDaniels could be easily gettable.

Once Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns’ max contract extensions kick in, the Minnesota Timberwolves will be in a financial bind, paying over $125 million annually for three players. Considering that they are nowhere near championship contention, Minnesota is not going to risk getting so deep into the tax.

This makes the idea of Minnesota resigning McDaniels more implausible. The Wizards can easily come up with an offer sheet that Minnesota will likely not match. This could be a 4-year deal with around $100 million guaranteed money.

McDaniels deserves that amount of contract with his performance in the first three years of his career. He already established himself as one of the best wing defenders in the NBA. Not only is he an excellent stopper on the perimeter, but he is also a fantastic help defender, averaging almost a steal and a block last season. He also improved his three-point shot, bringing his accuracy to 39.8%.

McDaniels is the prototypical 3&D player, and those players are incredibly valuable, especially if they are 22-year-olds like McDaniels. This is the type of player the Wizards need to consider splurging on.
