Isaiah Thomas joined the Wizards after his MVP caliber play was behind him

The face of the “heart over height” discussion on social media, Isaiah Thomas was one of the most liked players in the NBA during his peak in the 2016-’17 season. The five-foot-nine point guard finished fourth in MVP voting and was the shortest player to ever finish that high.

Fans admired his play as he put it all on the floor every night. Unfortunately, this level of heart and effort is what eventually ruined his career. He played through a nasty hip injury in the 2017 playoffs and it cost him much of his quickness and mobility, a key aspect to his game. While many will blame the Boston Celtics for what happened, he is still the one who made the decision to play.

After bouncing around the league for a few seasons, he ended up with the Washington Wizards where he averaged 12.2 points and 3.7 assists in only 40 games. He was out of the league entirely only two years later.
