We are only seven weeks away until the 2023-24 NBA season officially kicks off. With the ongoing FIBA World Cup, followed by the training camps and the preseason games, we have finally survived the basketball-less summer.

For NBA teams, including the Washington Wizards, the season starts with the training camp. Teams bring their players under guaranteed or two-way contracts. They battle it out for a rotation spot or fight for their lives to not get cut by the team. It’s also the only extended period of time teams have to practice together before the long regular season starts. Team chemistry is built during these few weeks of training camp.

When does the training camp start?

Here are all the important NBA preseason dates. The first allowable date for veteran players to report to their teams is October 2nd. Training camps will start on October 3rd. If a team is playing overseas games, they will likely meet before that date.

How about the preseason games?

The NBA preseason starts with the game between the Dallas Mavericks and the Minnesota Timberwolves in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. Teams that aren’t playing overseas will have a few more days of practice before they start their preseason games.

The first domestic preseason game is on October 7th between the Golden State Warriors and the Los Angeles Lakers. As teams begin releasing their preseason schedules, there will likely be more games on this date.

When does the preseason end?

The preseason runs from October 5th to October 20th. Teams, including the Washington Wizards, will play 4 preseason games.

When does the regular season start?

The opening night of the 2023-24 regular season is on October 24th. Rosters will need to be set the day before. The Washington Wizards play their season opener against the Pacers at Indiana on October 25th.
