Goal no. 2: The Washington Wizards need to boost the trade value of veteran players

With plenty of quality role players on the roster right now, the Washington Wizards are clearly going to be sellers at the trade deadline. However, many of their veteran assets will need to spend much of the season rebuilding their value as trade assets before they can get any substantial return.

This is something that has defined the Oklahoma City Thunder in recent years, allowing them to compile a ridiculous surplus of draft selections in the next five years. While the Wizards likely can’t replicate what Sam Presti has done, they can very well take inspiration from what has worked so well for the Thunder.

Danilo Gallinari is probably the best example of a player on the Wizards who can greatly improve their trade value. He is recovering from an ACL tear that kept him sidelined all of last season and was largely a throw in during the Kristaps Porzingis trade.

If Gallinari can prove that he is still a valuable role player next season, the Wizards could see a great return in a trade package sending him to a team that needs depth in the frontcourt. They could possibly even see draft capital involved in a trade.

They also have Delon Wright, Tyus Jones, Landry Shamet, Mike Muscala, and Kyle Kuzma as players who could drastically improve their trade value before the deadline. If every player can improve their standing in the league, the Wizards could really swing big at the deadline and receive tons of picks and maybe some young players as well.
