By Cem Yolbulan
The NBA All-Star Game has long been the celebration of the brightest stars in basketball. Perhaps more important than the weekend full of festivities and basketball, it’s the honor of being an All-Star that counts more for players. There will once again be endless debates and social media arguments about who should or shouldn’t be an All-Star this season. The game itself may not be the most competitive sporting event, but it’s still one of the most entertaining weekends on the basketball calendar. This year will mark the 73rd edition of the annual tradition.
The Washington Wizards don’t have any All-Stars on their roster. Kyle Kuzma and Jordan Poole will be candidates to make their first All-Star team this season. Perhaps more Wizards will be represented on Friday and Saturday night activities. Watching Bilal Coulibaly in the Rising Stars Challenge or Corey Kispert in the Three-Point Contest is a real possibility.

When is the 2024 NBA All-Star Game?
The 2024 NBA All-Star Game is on February 18, 2024. The All-Star Weekend will begin on Friday, February 16. Teams will be on All-Star break between February 16 and February 21, 2024. This gives them a chance to rest and regroup before they make their final push for the last stretch of the season.
What is the format of the 2024 NBA All-Star Game?
The format for the game is expected to remain the same as it has been since 2020. Starters from each conference will be selected by a combination of votes from fans, players, and media members. The reserves are chosen by all 30 NBA coaches.
Then, the top vote-getter from each conference becomes a captain and drafts their starters and reserves for the game. Teams are coached by the head coaches of the team with the best record in each conference as of two weeks before the All-Star Game.
In 2023, the captains were Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James, with Team Giannis defeating Team LeBron 184-175.
Once again, Elam Ending, or a “target score” format will determine the winner. Each All-Star team will compete to win each of the first three quarters, all of which will start with a score of 0-0. At the beginning of the fourth quarter, the game clock will be turned off and a Final Target Score will be set.
The Final Target Score will be determined by taking the leading team’s total cumulative score through three quarters and adding 24 points. The teams will then play an untimed fourth quarter and the first team to reach the Final Target Score will win the NBA All-Star Game.
