Detroit Pistons receive: Jordan Poole

Washington Wizards receive: James Wiseman, Alec Burks, DET 2nd-round pick

The Detroit Pistons haven’t started the 2023-24 season as they intended to. Hamstrung by injuries to their best players, the Pistons are currently the only team in the NBA that has a worse record than the Washington Wizards. They could, therefore, be open to shake things up with an early trade.

Despite wanting to take a step forward this season, the Pistons are in a rebuilding mode and are trying to prioritize their future over their present. Jordan Poole fits the timeline of their young players like Cade Cunningham, Ausar Thompson, and Jalen Duren. Poole can also help them in their continuous offensive struggles in the half-court. Poole, Cunningham, and Thompson would certainly be an intriguing trio with some two-way upside.

Plus, James Wiseman isn’t even in their rotation. Alec Burks has been a valuable piece for them and has been their best player at times. But, he is 32 and on an expiring contract.

The Wizards, on the other hand, could use Wiseman as a depth piece in their frontcourt rotation, and Burks as a trade chip at a later date, or choose to keep him around for veteran leadership. For their troubles, Washington could receive a second-round pick or two from the Pistons. This trade has the additional benefit of clearing the Wizards’ books for the future. They could use this newfound financial flexibility to be active in free agency or trade market going forward.
