AJ Dybantsa has officially been shut down for Summer League, but he’s shown enough to prove that he’s capable of being the future of the Washington Wizards organization. Dybantsa looks like a superstar in the making, and his Las Vegas performance showed that the Wizards need Trae Young to really hone in on his playmaking.

Obviously, Young is going to get his buckets. But he’s also one of the best passers in the NBA. For the sake of Dybantsa and the future of the Wizards, that’s the element of his game the Wizards need Young to focus on. They need Young to feed Dybantsa in the best possible spots.

If Washington can help Dybantsa immerse himself in the NBA world with one of the best playmakers in the league, it could do wonders for his development.

Trae Young's passing could really help AJ Dybantsa next season

Dybantsa, who was the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, already looks like an absolutely elite, NBA-caliber player. And it only took two Summer League games for him to prove that.

He showed out for the Wizards in Vegas, and in his very first game, he did it in front of a bunch of his future teammates: Young, Anthony Davis, Khris Middleton, Justin Champagnie, and others.

More than anything, Dybantsa’s comfort level driving and getting through traffic stood out. He was amazing when he got downhill, and the movement just looked fluid.

But the weird reality of the situation is that the Wizards sneakily have a lot of mouths to feed next season. Young is a ball-dominant player. Davis will need the ball, too. And then there’s Washington’s young core: Guys like Alex Sarr, Kyshawn George, and Bilal Coulibaly.

However, Dybantsa needs to be the Wizards’ top priority next season. He’s the future face of the franchise. He’s the guy who could bring them a championship at some point down the line.

With that in mind, the Wizards should want Young focusing his efforts on getting Dybantsa the ball in great spots. He’s a good enough passer to the point where he could significantly affect Dybantsa’s shot quality.

Rather than trying to feed himself, the Wizards should want Young to feed Dybantsa. Help the youngster be the best version of himself as soon as possible.

He’s clearly a star in the making, and Young can help him get there. If Young dominates as a playmaker, he could help Dybantsa get easy looks throughout his rookie campaign.
