The Washington Wizards have officially made AJ Dybantsa the face of the franchise, selecting the BYU standout No. 1 overall in the 2026 NBA Draft.

Dybantsa landing in D.C. with the top pick was the expected outcome entering draft night, but now that it's official, what year one could bring for the incoming rookie can actually be discussed.

Right off the bat, it's clear that Dybantsa brings a sense of offensive dominance that the Wizards don't already have on the roster, but what he brings to the table offensively puts him in the conversation to immediately be one of the best scorers in the Eastern Conference as a whole.

AJ Dybantsa will be a natural scorer from day one

The Eastern Conference is loaded with offensive superstars who can score in bursts, with Celtics star Jayson Tatum, reigning NBA Champion Jalen Brunson, and even Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell coming to mind, just to name a few.

And that's not even mentioning players like Tyrese Maxey, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Jaylen Brown.

However, in terms of natural scorers, there may not be one better than Dybantsa out the gate.

Obviously, putting the newest Wizard in that conversation from the jump can be viewed as a reach to some, but that's genuinely just how good the forward is.

Dybantsa led the nation in scoring at BYU, averaging 25.5 points per game, and it didn't come by way of luck.

The talented wing can get to the rim at ease using his size and athleticism, his footwork is off the charts, and his soft shooting touch allows him to be a threat not just from mid-range, but beyond the arc too.

He's savvy, and he can find his spots in a hurry, while not allowing opposing defenses to rush him on the offensive end.

Finding a talent with the amount of poise already that Dybantsa has is rare, but with just how well-rounded a prospect he is from the jump, it puts him in a unique spot.

Obviously, Dybantsa will go through the same growing pains that most rookies do, but in terms of NBA-readiness, he's about as ready as they come.

Dybantsa should be the favorite to win the NBA Rookie of the Year award, and it wouldn't be a shock to see him stamp his place in the East quicker than any rookie has in a long time, similar to how Cooper Flagg did with the Dallas Mavericks this season.
