The Washington Wizards season has been full of highs and lows already and we're only a few weeks in to the regular season.
Washington has already seen it all in the opening weeks of the season. Between sophomore leaps, sophomore slumps, inconsistent veteran play and questionable rotation decisions, the Wizards have plenty decisions to make moving forward.
However, while the early string of losses may make the start to the season more negative than positive, it's important to not that Washington's already seen plenty of optimistic signs to star the year.
Arguably the most positive sign of them all is the emergence of second-year man Alex Sarr.
The French product has looked like a completely different player to start the season and considering the struggles throughout his rookie year, his leap up to this point of the season has been an encouraging sign for both the front office and the fanbase who's lost hope more times than once.
Sarr looks like a rising star and his growing confidence is a major reason for his success this season.
Looking at his increased aggressiveness, especially in the post, the 7-footer looks like a player who not only put in the work this offseason, but believes he belongs.
Compared to his apparent lack of confidence last season, the fact that he's playing with a such high confidence on nearly every possession down will be huge for his development as the season moves forward.
Furthermore, Sarr's improved game and increased confidence has allowed for the team to find the ideal role that could put him in line to be a star sooner rather than later.
Sarr needs to attack the basket
As a rookie, Sarr seemed to be best suited for a stretch five role considering his struggles around the rim and ability to extend his game on the floor courtesy of his shooting ability.
However, this season, Sarr has been at his best when he's made it a point to get to the basket.
Not only is he playing with more physicality, but his size and skillset is turning him into an absolute mismatch inside the paint.
If Sarr continues playing with this newfound aggressiveness with intent to get to the rim, it will not only open up his offensive game, but the rest of the offense for his teammates, which will give the big man playmaking opportunities that will allow him to show improvement in every area of his game.
Sarr has the skillset, talent and size to be an absolute superstar for the Wizards and if his start to the season indicates anything, it's that his breakout to that point is on the horizon.
