The Washington Wizards have desperately been searching for a future cornerstone to build around since the departure of Bradley Beal.
Washington has taken their fair share of swings in the NBA Draft Lottery, but they've yet to hit the home run that gives the Wizards an All-Star caliber player that makes them feel comfortable about the state of their franchise moving forward.
There's plenty of talent on the roster to be optimistic about, but up to this point, there hasn't been a player to stamp himself as a future star the team can build around.
Fortunately for the Wizards, they may have finally found a new sense of hope with the recent sophomore leap of Alex Sarr, who's added about as much optimism a rebuilding team at the bottom of the NBA standings can have.
Looking at the difference between the former No. 2 overall's rookie season and the leaps he's made throughout the start of the regular season, the French product has given the team every reason to believe he could be the answer to their problems.
Averaging 18.1 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists, while shooting 50.7% from field goal range and 34.8% from beyond the arc, Sarr has proven exactly why the Wizards felt comfortable betting on his potential atop the 2025 NBA Draft.
Through the start of the year, there's been a legitimate argument to make that not only can Sarr be the answer, but he could be knocking on the door of an All-Star appearance sooner rather than later.
However, when he makes that All-Star team has more to do with the glaring weakness on the Wizards roster than it does on the improvements that Sarr needs to make before doing so.
Wizards need to find an answer at point guard
The Wizards have found talent all over the floor.
Sarr looks to be the future of the frontcourt, the emergence of Kyshawn George gives him a high-upside running mate.
Not to mention the high expectations for incoming rookie and reigning No. 6 overall pick Tre Johnson.
However, the lone area that the team has yet to figure out following the sophomore slump of Bub Carrington is the glaring whole at the point guard position.
Having an adequate point guard is going to be essential for Sarr moving forward and until the team provides him with the playmaker that can open up his game for him to scratch his potential, the possibility for him to make an All-Star team will continue to suffer.
