Anthony Davis' Wizards prediction adds more pressure than expected

Anthony Davis has yet to make a long-term commitment to the Washington Wizards, but his presence at the Summer League and his latest season prediction alone are close enough to suggest AD is here to stay.

In a recent interview, Davis answered a series of questions from a fan, some of which put the Wizards' season ahead in the spotlight.

Along with declaring Wizards' rookie AJ Dybantsa as his pick to win Rookie of the Year, AD predicted that Washington would win 40+ games next year.

The most interesting response from Davis, though, stems from the question of how many games the big man would play throughout the Wizards' 40+ win season.

His prediction for himself? 82 games.

Will this happen? Probably not, but it does suggest that Davis is fully aware of the biggest concern surrounding his game, and not only is he set on proving the Wizards' risky gamble was a smart one, but he's also looking to put the injury-prone comments to rest.

Regardless, under no circumstance will fans forget the star forward's prediction, whether it's for good reasons or bad.

Obviously, the likelihood that any player, not just Davis, will play all 82 games in any season is extremely low in today's NBA.

Unless your name is Mikal Bridges or Derrick White, suiting up in all 82 games isn't remotely an expectation for any player.

Suiting up in 60+ games is considered a win for most players, especially for stars with an injury history like Davis.

With the 65-game rule in place to make players eligible for awards, that benchmark alone will be the goal for Davis.

Nonetheless, if AD does manage to even get close to his prediction for games played during his first year in D.C., winning 40+ games is more than achievable for Washington's new-look roster.

The Wizards revamped depth chart has them in the perfect situation to prove Davis right, but with his latest comments giving the fans a new sense of hope that their days of medicority are officially in the past, the pressures on for him to not only prove himself right, but confirm Will Dawkins' bold swing and decision to prove loyal to his new star despite trade interest was the right move.

Whatever happens in the year ahead is to be determined, but one thing that can be taken out of these comments immediately is that Davis does, in fact, seem committed to the Wizards, and that is a win considering where things were as the regular season approached an end.
