The Washington Wizards have been a team that is being closely monitored as the NBA Draft looms.
Holding the No. 6 and No. 18 overall picks in the first round of the draft, Washington has the potential to be introducing two talented first-round prospects by this time next week OR they could be in position to make a bold move to trade into the top five and select the player of their choice, outside of Cooper Flagg and Dylan Harper obviously.
After falling to No. 6 in the NBA Draft Lottery in May, it seemed like the Wizards would be destined to land a player a tier below the top two selections by being forced to select best player available when its their turn to select.
However, after the recent rumors coming out of Ace Bailey's camp, the Wizards have increasingly been a team linked to the talented wing's draft process.
After cancelling a draft visit with the Philadelphia 76ers, who hold the No. 3 overall pick, Bailey is now left as the lone U.S. based prospect that has yet to visit any of the 30 NBA teams.
As a result, many believe that Bailey's camp could be pushing to get the Rutgers' standout on a team of his choosing with the Wizards being rumored to be an ideal candidate to land Bailey come draft day.
For the most part, Wizards fans have seemed increasingly encouraged about the possibility of leaving the NBA Draft with Bailey.
However, Bill Simmons suggested on the recent episode of The Bill Simmons Podcast that a pick like Bailey could be the exact reason for the team being in the position they're in today.
Simmons voiced his concern about the Wizards draft strategy and selecting a player like Bailey is what has sunk the Wizards/Bullets for years.
With less than a week until the NBA Draft, the consensus around Bailey is that he's the type of player team's are scared to draft due to the sole fact he could be a bust. However, team's are also scared about the real possibility that they pass on Bailey just for him to develop into a star.
Bailey is the true definition of a "hit or miss" prospect and while the chance he hits is exactly what the Wizards are banking on with the hope he can be a future cornerstone for the franchise, the proof is in the pudding.
The Wizards organization has a history of botching draft picks and their struggle to hit on prospects could be the exact reason it's alarming if they do take Bailey come draft night.
Is it worth the risk for the Wizards to take?
