The Washington Wizards trade deadline brought plenty of excitement about the direction in which the team is headed in.

Washington made a bold swing to land four-time All-Star Trae Young in the first of two huge moves that completely altered the league-wide perspective of the team's roster over night.

The second move came with the Wizards pairing Young with a future Hall of Fame running mate in Anthony Davis, giving the playmaking guard arguably the most dominant big man he's ever played with at his disposal.

Obviously, with the Wizards at the bottom of the NBA standings, competing for a top pick this offseason is at the top of the team's to-do list down the stretch of this season, with the hope that 2026-27 will be the year that Washington can get back in the mix in the Eastern Conference.

There's no doubt that based on the team's major swings, Young and Davis are a major piece of the puzzle in terms of the team's front office's future vision.

However, for those future goals to be reached, both players need to commit to staying in D.C. for the long haul.

With Davis under contract for the next couple years, Washington doesn't have much to worry about in regards to the former No. 1 overall pick leaving the team; at least not anytime soon

Meanwhile, Young's pending player option puts him in a slightly different position that the Wizards will need to sort out before they plan too far ahead.

And based on Bleacher Report's recent article listing each team's biggest flight risk for the offseason, Washington will need to get that sorted out sooner rather than later to avoid this nightmare scenario.

Bleacher Report lists Trae Young as Wizards' biggest flight risk

Washington is in a bit of a different position as nearly every other team in the league heading into the offseason.

Majority of teams around the league have at least one realistic flight risk to keep an eye on entering the 2026 offseason, but for the Wizards, there's not one obvious name.

That's exactly why Bleacher Report's Andy Bailey listed Trae Young as the team's biggest potential flight risk.

"The Washington Wizards truly don't have a flight risk, at least not one that qualifies under the definition we've been working with," Bailey writes. "He seems unlikely to decline a $49 million player option, but if extension talks don't go to his liking, it's not outside the realm of possibility."

Young has already seemed to fully adopt the Washington D.C. area and he looks invested in the fanbase and his new home.

Still, his desire for a long-term contract extension certainly played a role in his eventual split from the Atlanta Hawks, which is why extension talks with the Wizards will be vital for the realistic longevity of his tenure in the DMV.

Nonetheless, reports have already surfaced about the team's intent to extend both Young and Davis to long-term deals, so in terms of avoiding a nightmare scenario, it seems as if the Wizards are in a good place.
