The Washington Wizards offseason was filled with an abundance of moves as the team looked to reshape their roster.
Of those moves, CJ McCollum and Cam Whitmore were two of the biggest additions on the trade maket for Washington, both of which were expected to bring a versatile skillset to the DMV.
McCollum's tenure in Washington has already come to an end with the veteran guard being the centerpiece of the Wizards' package to acquire star guard Trae Young in a blockbuster trade with the Atlanta Hawks.
As for Whitmore, the verdict is still up in the air on just how long he'll be in the DMV, but if there's one thing that can be taken from the Wizards recent activity on the trade market, it's that Washington's front office won't shy away from the opportunity to make a deal, especially if they feel it gets them one step closer to their ultimate goal.
All that to say, if the right deal presents itself, Whitmore could find himself involved in a trade if Washington believes the return benefits them.
Following the inconsistent start to the season that eventually led to the benching of Whitmore prior to being sidelined with a blood clot issue,
As the Wizards continue to be rumored as a team expected to be active ahead of the NBA trade deadline in February, ESPN's Bobby Marks took his crack at putting together a three-team trade that ships Whitmore out of Washington.
Bobby Marks 3-team trade idea for Wizards
A look at the trade below:
In this hypothetical trade, the Wizards send Cam Whitmore to the New York Knicks, New York sends Guerschon Yabusele to the San Antonio Spurs and in exchange Washington lands a former lottery pick in Jeremy Sochan.
Why the Spurs would do it: San Antonio would land a versatile wing that could immediately contribute in the team's rotation for what they hope to be a deep postseason run. Yabusele proved to be a versatile asset to the Philadelphia 76ers last season, but since joining the Knicks in the offseason, he's struggled to find a role in Mike Brown's system.
Why the Knicks would do it: The Knicks clearly have a type with athletic wings profiling as prospects they tend to navigate towards. Whitmore fits that bill and with his potential to offer scoring on a cheap contract, the Villanova product would be the perfect fit in New York. Not to mention his upside to continue developing into a major impact player.
Why the Wizards would do it: Washington would land a former lottery pick with high upside that could become a long-term solution in the frontcourt for the Wizards. At 22, Sochan has yet to live up to the potential he entered the league with, but perhaps a fresh start could be exactly what he needs. Given the Wizards track record to take a swing on upside, Sochan would be the perfect candidate.
This entire trade scenario truly stems on the recovery of Whitmore, but this trade scenario could be a win-win for all sides involved.
