Since the beginning of the rebuild in Washington, the Wizards have made it a point of emphasis to assemble talented prospects at every position in hopes of eventually finding an answer for the team's biggest questions on the roster.

The emergence of Alex Sarr and Kyshawn George in the frontcourt have suggested that Washington's frontcourt may be in a good place moving forward, which alone is a great sign considering the Wizards have been forced to watch Deni Avdija breakout in the Western Conference with the Portland Trail Blazers.

However, the one area in specific that Washington has yet to find an answer for is arguablu the most important position on the roster.

The glaring hole in the backcourt for the Wizards is the lack of an answer at the point guard position.

Washington hoped that second-year man Bub Carrington, who was selected No. 14 overall in the 2024 NBA Draft could be the long-term solution in the DMV, but with a slow start to the regular season, it appeared that a move for a point guard ahead of the NBA trade deadline wasn't just likely, but inevitable.

As a result, the Wizards have found themselves being linked to nearly every point guard rumored to be available on the trade market with the most recent name to be mentioned being All-Star guard Trae Young from the Atlanta Hawks.

And while Washington may be forced to explore every possibility ahead of the February deadline, Carrington is doing everything in his power to give the Wizards a reason to avoid making a blockbuster trade.

Bub Carrington's play suggest Trae Young would be a bad move

There's no denying that Young is one of the best point guard's in the NBA, primarily due to his versatility on the offensive end with great playmaking abilities and creativity as a scorer.

However, on the defensive end, Young is an absolute liability and that goes against the entire blueprint Washington is building towards.

Furthermore, considering the timeline of the team's rebuild, trading for a 27-year-old guard with liabilities in certain areas definitely comes with an abundance of pros and cons.

Fortunately, the Wizards may not even find themselves in the position to consider a move any further if sophomore playmaker Bub Carrington continues to play at the level he has as of late.

Carrington is only averaging 9.5 points, 4.3 assists and 3.9 rebounds on the season, while shooting 41% from field goal range and 45.1% from beyond the arc.

Although his stats may not seem scream future star, the guard's bizarre shooting slump from midrange to start the season was the main concerning point for his sophomore campaign.

Nonetheless, the Pittsburgh product has turned things around as of late and coming fresh off his best performance of the season, where he posted a statline of 20 points, five rebounds and five assists, shooting 50% from the floor, including six threes off the bench, Carrington looked the part of the versatile prospect the Wizards selected him to develop into.

If Carrington continues playing at this level, Washington's front office may feel comfortable standing pat and allowing their young prospects to continue developing rather than making any major moves.
