The Washington Wizards entered the regular season with all eyes on the development of their young core.

With the likes of Alex Sarr, Kyshawn George, rookie Tre Johnson and even Cam Whitmore adding hype to the already high expectations for the Wizards to potentially take a step in the right direction,

However, one player in specific who was expected to take a major leap of his own was second-year man Bub Carrington.

Carrington was selected with the No. 14 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, the same pick that Washington landed in the package that was sent by the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for Deni Avdija.

Considering the breakout of Avdija, Carrington's development would make or break the regret behind the team's impatience that cost them what seems to be a cornerstone and future All-Star.

In addition, the departure of Jordan Poole this offseason set up Carrington perfectly to prove he could be the long-term solution to the Wizards biggest roster weakness.

Nonetheless, instead of proving he could be the team's point guard of the future, Carrington's bizarre start to the regular season suggested that he could be headed towards a sophomore slump that more so proved he could be yet another bust added to the Wizards collection of bad draft picks.

Fortunately, Carrington's play has finally began to level off and his wacky shooting splits have finally been put to rest as he begins to look like the player everyone expected him to following his rookie campaign.

Bub Carrington's shootiing lands him in elite company

Carrington's early season concerns stemmed from the guard's inconsistent shooting that showcased an efficient three-point average but an abysmal mid-range completion percentage.

Based on Carrington's success from the mid-range game, his regression is where the disppointment stemmed from.

Fast forward to now, the playmaker's shooting slump has become a thing of the past and he's finally began to prove how dangerous of a shooter he can be on a consistent basis.

In fact, the Pittsburgh product's strong shooting has put him in elite company that alone quiets the noise surrounding his sophomore slump.

As mentioned above, Carrington's three-point shooting has ranked him in the 90th percentile among all NBA point guards.

An impressive stat in its own right, but to make things even more impressive, Carrington has already improved his 43.2% clip from downtown to 44.2% from beyond the arc.

Not only does the 20-year-old look like an intriguing young prospect for the Wizards, but he seems like a player who's trending in the right direction after all.
