The Washington Wizards fell short of the ultimate goal to land Cooper Flagg after earning the No. 6 overall pick in Monday's NBA Draft Lottery.
However, in the latest Mock Draft by Gary Parrish of CBS Sports, the Wizards missing out on Flagg didn't stop them from targeting the playmaker's running mate from Duke with their first selection in June's NBA Draft.
That said, let's breakdown yet another possible look at how the Wizards could make out of the first-round in next month's draft.
Round 1, Pick 6: G Kon Knueppel, Duke
Obviously, when it comes to Duke this past season, all eyes were on Cooper Flagg as he was considered the top prospect in the country entering his freshman season with the Blue Devils.
And while the generational talent was certainly a driving force behind Duke's success and their deep run, one player in specific that didn't get the credit he deserved was Kon Knueppel. However, he'll get the credit from me.
Knueppel may be one of the most crafty scorers in this entire draft class. He won't overwhelm you with athleticism, and he's by no means a premiere passer, but what he's without a doubt a polished shooter.
At 6-foot-7, Knueppel can shoot the lights out and he proved that this season for the Blue Devils, averaging 14.4 points with shooting splits of 47.9% from field goal range and 40.6% from beyond the arc. On defense, he can be a bit of a liability with his struggles moving laterally, similar to Luka Doncic.
Nonetheless, between his size and shot-making ability, he's an intriguing prospect, especially in today's NBA where offense seems to be a priority.
Could I see him as the Wizards top choice? Personally no. However, his potential makes it understanding if Washington wants to make a reach and bank on what he could become.
Round 1, Pick 18 (via MEM): G Egor Demin, BYU
Egor Demin is another prospect that the Wizards would be selecting in this mock draft with the potential to develop as a key piece in their backcourt moving forward.
The BYU product showed flashes during his freshman season with the Cougars and he without a doubt has the type of skillset that's worth banking on, especially at No. 18 overall.
With the right development, Demin could be a Josh Giddey-esque player as an underrated scorer, but with pass-first intentions, which is exactly the type of player the Wizards could use on their young core.
