Bub Carrington's start to the season has been the exact opposite hopes the Washington Wizards and their fanbase had for the point guard entering the season.

The former lottery pick seem poised to take advantage of the opportunity presented to him entering the season with the primary ball handling duties up for grabs.

Following his solid rookie season that was capped off with a game-winning shot to knock off the Miami Heat in the Wizards' regular season finale, it seemed that the Pittsburgh product could be set to prove he could be the answer the Wizards have desperately been searching for at the point guard position.

However, to start the season that hasn't proved to be the case,

In fact, Carrington has provided more evidence that he may not be the long-term answer rather than proving that he is.

And if you don't believe me, perhaps you'll believe the NBA Draft guru who also doesn't believe in the long-term fit of Carrington in Washington.

Sam Vecenie questions Carrington's role in D.C.

Carrington's struggles have raised the eye brows of several basketball minds across the league and the main reason for that is due to the bizarre shooting slump the guard's currently in.

The playmaker's success as a rookie came fro his efficiency in the mid-range game, In turn, the biggest weakness Carrington flashes was his underwhelming shooting from beyond the arc.

Fast forward to this season, the ACC standout has turned his three point shooting around in a major way knocking down 43.3% of his attempts from beyond the arc.

However, his field goal range as a whole has decreased majorly shooting 35.2% from the floor due to his struggles from the mid-range game.

To make matters worse, the guard's inability to get downhill more effectively as he suggested he focused on this offseason has made his impact more limited than expected.

Those struggles alone were arguably Sam Vecenie's biggest gripe when it came to Carrington's sophomore slump.

"We had that running total last year of him taking 85 free throws at 82 games," Vecenie noted in a recent episode ofThe Game Theory Podcast. "We're now at 99 free throws in 98 games. If you're a lead guard that's a real problem. That's a real significant issue unfortunately"

"I think he probably would have been better with one more college year..continuing to fill out his frame and getting stronger," Vecenie continued.

All that to say if Carrington doesn't get his issues figured out sooner rather than later, it may not be worth the Wizards continuing to prioritize his development in Washington, especially if they don't believe he could be the solution for any of their issues.
