There's no denying that Bub Carrington's start to his sophomore season has added doubt to the fanbase that the guard could be the answer to the team's biggest roster weakness.

The Pittsburgh product was drafted as a raw prospect, but many believed that in the right developmental system, the versatile playmaker had the skillset and potential to be an elite player at the next level.

Carrington's upside was the exact reason why the Wizards selected him No. 14 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, making him part of the Deni Avdija trade with the Portland Trail Blazers.

Obviously, at the moment, Avdija's breakout in Portland has made the deal look a bit more lopsided than anyone would like to admit, which is partially why the criticism of Carrington's slow start has become so talked about.

That and the fact that Carrington's bizarre start has come as a result to a his very confusing shooting splits, that seem completely flipped based off his rookie campaign that was capped by a buzzer beater to knock off the Miami Heat in the team's regular season finale.

Nonetheless, Carrington's slow start to the season shouldn't define his career potential, especially considering he just added his name to the Wizards' history books.

Bub Carrington makes Wizards history

In the Wizards 119-94 loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday, Carrington finished with 15 points, five rebounds and threwe assists, while shooting 6/12 from field goal range and 3/7 from beyond the arc.

15 points isn't anything to celebrate by any means, but those 15 points elevated Carrington to the 1,000-point mark for his NBA career.

While 1,000 career points is plenty of reason to celebrate, that's not what this article is about.

As a result of reaching 1,000 points, Carrington became the only player in Wizards history 20 or younger to accomplish 1,000 points, 400 rebounds and 400 assists.

These numbers are just an early indication of how dynamic of a playmaker he can be for the Wizards moving forward.

It's clear that the ACC product's rough shooting start was a disappointing start to the season, but as water begins to level off, Carrington's play is proving exactly why the Wizards' front office thought highly enough about his potential to take a swing on his upside.

Now, with the added confidence of himself being added in the Wizards history books, Carrington could be in line to continue improving as the Wizards season unfolds proving his slow start meant simply just doesn't matter.
