For years, the Washington Wizards have seemed to be at the bottom of the NBA food chain as years of mediocrity have plagued the struggling franchise.
Between historically bad seasons that were trailed by bad luck in the NBA Draft Lottery, it almost felt like Washington would never make it out of the bottom of the NBA standings.
And obviously, the team still has a ways to go before they can be considered out of the basement, so to speak, but it's clear that general manager Will Dawkins has put the team in a position to make a leap next season.
Considering a star duo of Trae Young and Anthony Davis is set to lead an intriguing young core, headlined by the projected No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, into battle next year, the Wizards have what it takes to make some noise.
The rest of the league is clearly noticing what's being built in D.C., and Boston Celtics' star Jaylen Brown's recent comments on social media prove that.
Jaylen Brown's response to Trae Young's comments should open eyes
Trae Young sent a message in his recent appearance on The Pivot, suggesting that the doubt surrounding him and his new squad has only made the chip on their shoulder bigger.
The Wizards' guard clearly has a motive to silence the noise, but based on the response from Brown on social media, it feels like only outsiders are counting Washington out.
They gone move the bar https://t.co/sup5Udty5F
— Jaylen Brown (@FCHWPO) June 10, 2026
Brown's social media comments say a lot in very few words.
Suggesting the Wizards are going to move the bar only confirms that the top players in the league have their eyes on what is being built in the DMV, and for good reason.
The talent on the Wizards is already noteworthy, and that's not even factoring in the team is expected to finally land their long-awaited cornerstone this offseason, with all eyes on AJ Dybantsa, who Brown's likely to come to know well given the two forwards' Boston ties.
All that to say, if Brown, an All-NBA talent, is clearly high on the Wizards' potential resurgence in the East, it should prove that fans should be more than confident in the future of this team.
Wizards aren't the same Wizards from the past
There's no saying how high the ceiling is for the Wizards next season.
Expecting the team to make a run to the NBA Finals may not be a realistic goal, but based on the blueprint the San Antonio Spurs just laid down, who's to rule it out?
Regardless of how good Washington is or isn't next season, it's obvious that things are finally looking up in the nation's capital, and the fanbase should finally feel good about the direction the team is moving in.
