The Washington Wizards have seemed to find yet another hidden gem with the recent emergence of two-way standout Julian Reese.

After signing the Maryland product to a two-way contract earlier this month, the former Terrapin has continuously proven that not only is he worthy of a standard contract, but he has the skillset and determination that can allow for him to make an impact immediately, especially after etching his name in the history books.

Averaging 12.0 points and 10.7 rebounds, while shooting 65.1% from field goal range, Reese has emerged as a legitimate steal for Washington through his small five-game sample size.

All that to say, Reese's dominance has put the team in a spot they didn't expect to be in moving forward; one that will put the team in a position that may force them to step back and examine things ahead of next season.

Julian Reese could alter the Wizards plans

Following the blockbuster trade to land Anthony Davis ahead of the NBA trade deadline, Washington seemed poised to enter next season with a loaded frontcourt already.

With the like of Davis and rising stars Alex Sarr and Kyshawn George already filling out the team's frontcourt, the overwhelming amount of talent is putting the team in a rare spot that simply the Washington Wizards aren't used to being in.

Beyond the names mentioned above, Washington has players like Bilal Coulibaly, Tristan Vukcevic, Cam Whitmore, Reese and a potential incoming draft pick all to find minutes for moving into next season.

Obviously, Reese's emergence may not put him in position for the team to alter their draft plans, but there is a world in which the young forward could allow the team to find comfort in making moves on the trade market this offseason.

Regardless of how the former Terrapin impacts the teams future plans, Reese also finds himself as the latest example that the front office of general manager Will Dawkins and President of Monumental Basketball Michael Winger has an eye for talent.

Wizards continue to land intriguing young talent

Aside from the recent story behind Reese's emergence, it's clear that the team's front office has found talent in nearly every place they look.

From making the most of unfortunate situations in the NBA Draft Lottery with Sarr, Tre Johnson, and even hidden gems in the back half of the first round like George and Will Riley, to finding intriguing prospects on the two-way market in Reese and Sharife Cooper.

Washington’s front office has an eye for talent, and if they continue building the roster the way they have, it’s only a matter of time before the Wizards become a true force to be reckoned with in the East.
