The Trae Young era in Washington has yet to officially begin, but there's no doubt that the star guard plays a pivital role in the Wizards' future plans.
Washington has high hopes for what Young's impact could offer, which is part of the reason why the Wizards increased their urgency to get a deal done when the former All-Star became available on the trade market.
Although the Wizards don't seem to be in any major rush for the guard to make his debut anytime soon, there's a reason why Washington made the blockbuster trade for the former top five pick.
For starters, the team's desire to find a long-term point guard option made a fit intrguing.
Not only due to how much a stable ball handler with high upside as a passer could offer the Wizards as a team, but how much his presence could impact the development of top young prospects on the team such as Alex Sarr, who arguably could be the biggest beneficiary of all in this entire deal.
Nonetheless, Washington's efforts to acquire Young weren't just motivated by what his impact on the court could offer, but also what his impact off the court could bring too.
Trae Young could impact the Wizards in more ways than one
As mentioned above, Young's impact in Washington goes beyond the court.
Not only does Young put fans in the seat, but he also gives the Wizards a way to potentially lure additional talent to D.C. this offseason.
According to NBA Insider Marc Stein, it's obvious why the Wizards made the move to bring Young in.
"You bring in Trae Young, he gives you some sizzle, he ensures next season you'll hit the salary floor with much greater ease," Stein said. "He fills a void. And if the worst thing is that this thing ends after a year and a half, you created some buzz, you've used your cap space in an efficient way," the NBA Insider added.
With the Wizards efforts to put Washington back on the map, the arrival of young mixed with the flashes from the. young core could be the move that does exactly that.
Stein's comparison to Chris Paul's impact for Oklahoma City and Fred VanVleet's arrival in Houston opens eyes about what kind of impact Young could have on Washington, even if it's not a long-term solution like the Wizards hope it can be.
