The Washington Wizards season is finally underway and head coach Brian Keefe already has a tough decision to make moving forward.
There's no denying that Washington is prioritizing their future and as the Wizards continue to do that, the young prospects on the roster are the primary focus.
The only problem is the Wizards have slowkly but surely found themselves with a surplus of talent and not enough minutes to spare.
With the injury of Bilal Coulibaly, who found himself as a full-time starter for the Wizards last season, it opened up a spot in the starting lineup for second-year man and emerging star Kyshawn George to take on a starting role.
George's flashes this offseason and the hype train surrounding his potential entering the season, immediately propeled him to become a fan favorite entering the season.
However, the Miami product didn't only become a fan favorite, but his growth seemingly caught the attention of the coaching staff, who have done nothing but rave about the oversized guard since training camp began.
The coaching staff asked George to take on a leadership role and become more aggressive on the floor and following his debut on Wednesday, it'll be hard for the Wizards to remove the versatile wing out of the starting lineup when Couliably eventually returns to full health.
On the flip side though, Coulibaly is yet another former first-round pick with the potential to emerge as a building block for the Wizards.
Nonetheless, his struggles through the first two seasons have put the team's front office in an interesting situation, as they're currently split between letting the French product continue his development in D.C. or facing the harsh reality that it may be time to give the former lottery pick a change of scenery.
Entering his third-season, Coulibaly still has time to prove the Wizards front office made the right decision drafting him, even if his lowlights caused concern, but if he's not able to do it soon, there's no real reason for the team to potentially hinder the development of a prospect like George, who could flourish in a starting role.
All that to say, when Coulibaly returns, head coach Brian Keefe will be presented with a difficult decision to make.
Does Coulibaly start and George return to the bench?
Should George start and Coulibaly head back to the bench?
Or, do the Wizards fully embrace the rebuilding movement and send Khris Middleton to the bench and start both Coulibaly and George?
Regardless of what direction Keefe leans, there's no doubt a decision will have to be made soon.
