On Monday, the Washington Wizards announced newly-acquired forward Isaiah Livers will be sidelined for the remainder of the season due to inflammation of the joint capsule in his right hip.
According to the report from the Wizards on Twitter, the team is expected to take extra precaution with the injury and treat the recovery process conservatively. Livers has yet to log any playing time with the Wizards due to the injury, last appearing on January 12th in a game for the Detroit Pistons.
The injury is yet another setback for the Wizards, who continue to struggle to stay healthy this season. During Sunday's 114-105 loss at the Capital One Arena against the Cleveland Cavaliers, rookie Bilal Coulibaly took a hard fall after an attempt at dunking over Cavaliers forward Max Strus. According to Wizards coach Brian Keefe, the 19-year-old suffered a pelvic contusion during the play.
Isaiah Livers' season-ender adds to long list of Wizards injuries
The Wizards acquired Livers last month in a trade with the Pistons, sending Danilo Gallinari and Mike Muscala to Detroit in the exchange. The trade also brought 24-year-old center Marvin Bagley III to the District, who has started each of the Wizards' last six contests. In 23 games for Detroit this season, Livers averaged 5 points and 2.1 rebounds per game.
Entering Tuesday night's matchup with the Golden State Warriors, the Wizards' injury report features a long list of names, including some key rotational players. Alongside Livers and Coulibaly, who has been confirmed as out Tuesday, are Deni Avdija (heel), Corey Kispert (illness), and Landry Shamet (neck). The three latter names have each been listed as questionable against the Warriors.
Golden State announced early Monday that 12-time All-Star Chris Paul will be available to return for his first game action since January 5th against the Wizards. With the Warriors getting Paul back from injury, the shorthanded Wizards will need to bring their A-game to come away with a win on Tuesday.
