Ahead of Friday night's matchup with the Los Angeles Clippers, the Washington Wizards announced the team had reached an agreement with forward Eugene Omoruyi on a new multi-year contract. The signing will keep the 27-year-old under contract through the 2024-25 season.

The Wizards initially signed Omoruyi on a two-way contract this past July, shortly after he was waived by the Detroit Pistons. In 17 games with Detroit last season, the undrafted Omoruyi averaged 9.7 points and 3.5 rebounds per game while playing 21.9 minutes per night.

Since signing his deal with Washington, Omoruyi has had a much smaller role than the one he had previously in Detroit. However, the lack of consistent playing time has not dampened his ability to impact games in the energy department.

Inking Omoruyi a step in the right direction for Wizards

As the Wizards remain actively in search of their team of the future, agreeing to a multi-year deal with Omoruyi is a step in the right direction. Geno has provided unparalleled intensity to Washington's rotations when he takes the floor, fighting relentlessly for rebounds while displaying sturdy defensive versatility. The infectious energy he provides makes Omoruyi well-deserving of a spot in the NBA.

Not long after his contract was signed and sealed, Omoruyi and the Wizards were tasked with taking on the powerhouse Los Angeles Clippers at the Crypto.com Arena. The Wizards' newest full-time roster member celebrated in his 12 minutes and 45 seconds of game action by getting right to work, posting the third-highest usage percentage on the team Friday.

With one game left on the Washington's three-game West Coast trip, a meeting with the Utah Jazz at the Delta Center lies ahead. The Wizards will return home on March 6th for a matchup against the Orlando Magic, Omoruyi's first chance to show out for the home fans post-signing.
