Don’t say the Washington Wizards have quit on this season. Washington entered Tuesday night just one game above the Detroit Pistons for the worst record in the NBA.

That didn’t matter as double-digit underdogs to the Milwaukee Bucks, rallying for a 117-113 win to snap a three-game losing streak. Do they have another feisty underdog performance in them when the Lakers come to town Wednesday?

The Lakers have won seven of their last eight games and look destined for the NBA Play-In Tournament as the No. 9 seed in the Western Conference. With six games left, they are still within striking distance (1.5 games) of No. 7 Sacramento and No. 8 Phoenix.

Can they pull away as double-digit chalk Wednesday to wrap up a six-game road trip? Here’s the betting breakdown of the matchup with a best bet.

Lakers vs. Wizards key players to watch

Los Angeles Lakers

D’Angelo Russell: Russell has continued to produce for the team that drafted him nearly a decade ago. In the first full season of his second stint with the Lakers, Russell is averaging 18.2 points per game and has made four or more 3-pointers in six of the last seven games. Russell is coming off a 25-point performance (7-of-14 from downtown) in Tuesday’s road win over Toronto.

Washington Wizards

Jared Butler: It took an all-around effort from Washington to upset Milwaukee on Tuesday and Butler had his hand in contributing off the bench. Over 17 minutes, Butler had 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting with a 3-for-3 performance from the perimeter. Over the last two games, Butler has combined for 31 points, going 12-of-16 from the field.

Lakers vs. Wizards prediction and pick

There’s no doubt the Lakers have the talent to run away from the lowly Wizards, but Tuesday was a great reminder what can happen when a big road favorite overlooks an opponent without the proper motivation to set the tone.

The Lakers have motivation to climb to one of the top-two seeds in the play-in tournament, though it’s questionable if they have the fresh legs to back them when laying double figures on the road. As mentioned, the Lakers wrap up a six-game road trip in our nation’s capital Wednesday and start a three-game homestand Saturday against a trio playoff-caliber teams.

The Lakers are also finishing a back-to-back after beating Toronto on Tuesday. Los Angeles is just 4-9 ATS with no rest this season and 5-9 ATS overall as a road favorite.

Washington is in a familiar spot as a big home underdog. After beating the Bucks, Washington has now covered three of its last four games getting 10-plus points. Take the points with the Wizards, a team that took the Lakers to overtime on the road just over a month ago.
