Cooper Flagg, leader of the undefeated Monteverde High School, is projected to be taken with the first overall pick in the 2025 NBA draft by an overwhelming majority. The 6'9' forward has been putting on a clinic, averaging 16.5 points, 7.7 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 2.8 blocks per game through 28 games this season. Turning 17 years old just a few months ago, Flagg has found himself in the headlines through impressive AAU performances, most recently becoming a finalist for the 2024 Naismith High School Boys' Player of the Year award.

Cooper Flagg projected to join the District in 2025 NBA Draft

The latest mock draft from ESPN's Jonathan Givony projects Flagg will land in Washington with the first overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. Givony had this to say on the topic:

"His ballhandling is making strides. He has grown and added bulk to his outstanding frame -- and he might not be done yet considering he turned 17 three months ago. Flagg's motor, defensive versatility and increasingly dynamic perimeter shooting give him a very high floor as a prospect, but that he's still so young means he has considerable upside to grow into...Flagg is wired to win and has exceeded expectations at every turn, making him the easy pick to project at No. 1 early on."

The Wizards, a team that has been struggling throughout the 2023-24 NBA season, are pursuing draft selections in the 2024 and 2025 NBA Draft as they navigate through their rebuilding process. Losing 11 games consecutively, the Wizards are well on pace to land themselves within the top five picks in both the 2024 and 2025 NBA Draft.

Givony's 2025 NBA Mock Draft also shows the Washington Wizards landing the 31st, and 47th overall picks, and projects the following players to be selected:

With very little success coming out of Capital One Arena in recent years, the fans remain hopeful that the tides will soon turn. The additions of Flagg, Mara, and Robinson would add great depth and size to an already youthful Washington Wizards locker room.
