Next year will likely be a rough one for the Washington Wizards. They are about to enter Year 2 of what could be a very long rebuild, but they will have plenty of things to look forward to.

From the rookies—Alex Sarr, Bub Carrington, and Kyshawn George—two a second year of development for Bilal Coulibaly, Washington should be able to have some fun as they rebuild.

Another fun part of the rebuild will be seeing which youngsters the Wizards choose to take a chance on, whether it be at the end of their roster or with a two-way spot.

Washington already has two of their two-way spots filled heading into next season, with Justin Champagnie and Tristan Vukcevic occupying those slots.

That leaves one two-way spot left open, but according to a recent rumor reported by Christos Tsaltas of Sportal, the Wizards already have somebody in mind to occupy that spot.

Tsaltas stated that Taylor Funk is expected to land the team’s final two-way spot after his impressive performance for Washington throughout the course of Summer League.

Wizards will reportedly sign Taylor Funk to final two-way spot

In five Summer League games with the Wizards this year, Funk averaged 11.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.2 assists while shooting 43.6% from the floor and 45.7% from beyond the three-point arc.

The 26-year-old forward is 6-foot-8, making him a very intriguing prospect for the Wizards to keep on board, as his shooting at his size would be a very valuable tool.

Funk played his college ball at Utah State and spent this past year with the Capital City Go-Go—Washington’s G League team. He played well there, too, and now, he seems to be in line to join the team in a larger role.

With guys like Alex Sarr and Bilal Coulibaly leading the way in Washington, the Wizards will need to identify and develop shooters to play alongside them moving forward. Funk could be one of those guys.

Guys who can shoot like Funk at his height don’t grow on trees. The fact that the Wizards have him in their orbit means they should pounce at the opportunity to keep him around.

Fans should be very excited about what he could look like next to Washington’s young core if he continues to develop well.
