The Washington Wizards retool is in full swing. It started by trading Bradley Beal and Kristaps Porzingis in the 2023 offseason. Now, the franchise is focused on adding young talent and draft capital to build a sustainable contender. Head coach Brian Keefe has a development plan, and the Wizards want to upgrade their roster through the draft.

Washington took Alex Sarr with the second overall pick in the 2024 draft and believes in his superstar potential. Finding a seven-footer capable of firing from 3-point range, defending on the perimeter, and protecting the rim is difficult, and the Wizards may not get a higher selection in this rebuild.

Rebuilding teams love to make moves and try to upgrade their roster. The Wizards are making calls and exploring the market, but teams should not ask for these players. Washington likely has them in the untouchable category unless some franchise is willing to offer a superstar in return.

3. Bub Carrington

The Wizards selected Carrington 14th overall in the 2024 draft. They got the pick from Portland in the Deni Avdija trade and may have taken the steal of the class. The 6’4 guard is already drawing comparisons to an All-Star guard and will get chances to prove himself on and off the ball this season.

No team wants to be the one to trade a talented teenager before he blossoms into a star. The Wizards will give Carrington time and reps to develop. The franchise hopes he becomes an All-Star and has teams regretting passing on him. Only time will tell.

Bub Carrington has not even played an NBA game yet, but the Washington Wizards are in full rebuild mode. That means accumulating young talent and helping them blossom. They got a special one in the 6’4 guard. Now, it is all about helping him and the others realize their potential.

2. Bilal Coulibaly

The Wizards traded up to draft Coulibaly seventh overall in 2023. He was the first draft pick of the franchise’s new front office and getting a 6’6 with a versatile skill set was impossible to pass up.

Coulibaly averaged 8.4 points, 4.1 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.8 blocks in 27.2 minutes per game as a rookie. He shot just 34.6 percent from 3-point range, but there were flashes in year one. The 20-year-old has a ton of room to improve, and the Wizards hope he turns into an impactful option on both ends of the floor.

The 6’6 wing helped France win the silver medal in the Olympics this summer. He did not get significant playing time, but making the team was a massive accomplishment. France has a strong group of young talent and plans to dethrone Team USA in 2028 and beyond. Bringing Coulibaly this summer shows he is part of their core moving forward.

The Washington Wizards believe Bilal Coulibaly will be a key rotation piece in the nation’s capital for the next 15 years. The 20-year-old must add to his game and has significant room to grow. Washington has no desire to trade him unless a blockbuster offer comes their way.

1. Alex Sarr

The number two overall pick in 2024 is the Wizards' top building block, and they need him to become a star.

Washington selected a seven-footer with immense upside on both ends of the floor. He can space the floor, protect the rim, and guard on the perimeter. The Wizards need to give him time to develop, but Sarr could blossom into a dynamic stretch five that wreaks havoc on the opposition.

They have no interest in trading him. The franchise will spend countless hours developing his game, especially on the offensive end. Sarr needs work in every facet, and the Wizards must help him reach his immense ceiling.

The Washington Wizards' untouchables are not superstars. They are young talents in the developmental phase. That is what happens during a rebuild. Fans will soon discover if the new front office made the right selections and if the franchise can help them become standouts. The Wizards want to win, and their success rides on drafting and developing.
